Effectiveness - Patients report Effectiveness varies. Patients report often forgetting to apply to nail long term distributing the effectiveness of the product.
Length of time to Kill fungus - Minimum 9 to 12 months

Dangers and or side effects - Redness, itching or blistering of skin. Nail discolouration. Broken or brittle nails.
Lamisil Oral TERBINAFINE - ORAL
Effectiveness - Highly effective. Requires a positive microscopy or culture. Appears to a growing reinfection rate anecdotally among patients.
Length of time to Kill fungus - 3 to 6 months
Cost of treatment over 12 month period - $280.25 for 6 months’ supply assuming fungus has cleared in this time.

Dangers and or side effects - Diarrhoea, stomach upset, or temporary change or loss of taste may occur. This drug has rarely caused very serious liver disease.
Daily use of alcohol may increase your chance for serious side effects. May make you more sensitive to the sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning booths, and sunlamps.

Tea tree oil
Effectiveness - Highly ineffective – Poor response. Recommended for mild cases only success in less than 11% of cases.
Length of time to Kill fungus - Many people go on to use this for many years
Cost of treatment over 12 month period - Twice daily for 9 to 12 months with 18% cure rate
Dangers and or side effects - Can cause skin irritation, swelling, skin dryness, itching, stinging, burning and redness
Canesten Fungal Nail Treatment
Effectiveness - Many patients suggest this is difficult to follow and quite time consuming. Reports of effectiveness are varied. Not recommended for more than 3 nails. Not effective when the nail matrix is involved.
Length of time to Kill fungus - 2 to 3 times daily over 6 to 12 months up to 1 bottle a week. Must be combined with nail debridement to increase penetration of the nail plate. Application usually 12 months but is dependent on nail growth
Cost of treatment over 12 month period - $7.39 per 20ml bottle per week for 12months is $384.28
Dangers and or side effects - Skin reactions such as stinging, redness, blistering, peeling, swelling, itching and general irritation. Avoid use during pregnancy. (data lacking)
